Shottle Signal Box

The Association has been helping to fund the installation of a new signal box at Shottle station. This will provide full signal control from a single operator on days with two trains running.

Total cost estimated at £1000.

 

Further donations are required to fund a 3-phase power supply.

History

Originally located at Oddingly, the box was used as a crossing keeper's hut. The crossing box was built in 1906 and was decommissioned 110 years later in October 2016. It was moved to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway on the 26th October 2016 and has been restored and painted in Midland style colours.

On the 12th June 2020, the box was lifted into its final position and will act as the signal box for the Shottle loop for when two trains are running.

​

Wooden cladding and the linkages to operate the signals and points around the station will be the next tasks to undertake to see the conclusion of this project.
