Steam Footplate Experience

Ever wanted to drive a steam locomotive? This is your chance!
Why not take control of one of our steam engines under the supervision of our experienced drivers and firemen?
The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Association is offering one and two-hour driving experiences on one of our 'Andrew Barclay 0-4-0' steam engines at Wirksworth Station.
What's included:

Safety briefing

The opportunity to fire and drive the steam engine in the yard and on the unique 1:27 incline to Ravenstor – the steepest heritage railway line in the country to operate passenger trains.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age, reasonably fit and agile, suffer no memory impairment and have reasonable sight and hearing (glasses and hearing aids are permitted). Due to the size of the locomotive and as no other rolling stock is used, unfortunately, guests will not be able to participate in the experience.
Cancellation Policy:
Once dates are available for the steam driving experiences, participants will be asked to provide three preferred dates for their experience. We will endeavour to arrange the experience for one of these dates. Once a date has been offered and accepted, no further changes can be made and no refunds will be offered.
