Here are the current projects that EVRA is working on and that need your help and support.
Shottle Signal Box
The Association has been helping to fund the installation of a new signal box at Shottle station. This will provide full signal control from a single operator on days with two trains running.
Steam Locomotive “Brian Harrison” No. 3
The Association’s steam locomotive “Brian Harrison” No.3 has begun is 10-year overhaul following the expiration of its boiler certificate. This is the first steam locomotive which was restored and operated by the Association.
Its brother locomotive "Henry Ellison" is currently the only steam locomotive which is operational that is looked after by the Association.
The Association would like to return this reliable locomotive to service as soon as possible to cover the demands of the 2020 season.
Steam Locomotive “Cathryn” No. 102
The Association’s third steam locomotive “Cathryn” is well into its restoration, and once completed it could provide a regular steam service between Wirksworth and Duffield.
New Station Building at Wirksworth
The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Association has been in the process of constructing a brand new station building at Wirksworth.
This is a major undertaking with a range of fundraising initiatives ongoing to help raise the £500,000 required for construction.
British Railways Mk1 Coaches
The Association is the custodian of five ex-British Railways Mk1 carriages. Four of which are frequently used on the railway. Their regular use transporting the ever-increasing visitor numbers requires constant upkeep to maintain them in a safe and working condition for our visitors' delight.
There is a further carriage which is currently under restoration and we are looking to bring it into traffic in the future.
L&NWR Water Tender
Acquired for the railway in August 2004, this bowser was donated to EVRA from the National Collection by the National Railway Museum for restoration and display. It was built to act as a water tanker for the Cromford and High Peak Railway (now the High Peak Trail) and to service the small and remote settlements, where there was no mains water, along the line. It is thought to have been built around 1894 using a former LNWR Webb tender.
The Association would like to restore it to act as a remote water source when running steam locomotive services between Wirksworth and Duffield.
